Hi all,

Before getting married, I lived with my wife for 3 years. Question 9 of IMM1344 asks if you've ever been previously married or in a common-law relationship. I answered "No" for this one...is that okay? When we lived together, we didn't have anything in both our names...everything was separate...we just lived under the same roof...So is my interpretation correct? "No" is the correct answer in my situation??

Thanks,
FS

What question on what form is this?

I cannot remember which form, or if it's even a question on any of the forms. I just wanted to check about what is defined as conjugal partner and whether my wife and I were in a conjugal relationship when we were living together as boyfriend and girlfriend.

I was in the same situation, no legal ties under uk law with my ex and when i filled out the forms i made the mistake of mentioning her as i had a letter from cic requesting for seperation/divorce papers from her.

I believe the u.k doesnt really recognize common law/conjugal partner so i cannot get seperation papers, if you was not legally bound to her in anyway in your own country i wouldnt mention them.

I sent a letter back, making the statement "that i was never legally bound to her in anyway" which i hope is good enough to clear it up.

this is my personal experience so far :(, still very worried about my app.

We are married now...

I'm not mentioning her as a conjugal partner...I just wondered if CIC would consider the time we lived together as boyfriend and girlfriend as a conjugal relationship. During that time, we did not have any legal ties...we just slept under the same roof...

Hi all,

Before getting married, I lived with my wife for 3 years. If I put down I have never been in a conjugal relationship, am I lying??? Our lease agreement was in my name. The utility bills were in my wife's name. We did not have any joint accounts or shared property, assets, etc...

I consider the time we lived together as simply being boyfriend and girlfriend. Is my interpretation correct??

Thanks,
FS
conjugal is when you aren't able to live together for whatever reason. Common law is what you would have been considered for those 3 years. CIC recognizes common law relationships after 1 year of living together and in a committed relationship.

K wait, i misunderstood. conjugal in terms of immigration (the conjugal category) is when you have been in a committed relationship but aren't able to live together.
You would still be considered common law though i think if you were in a commited relationship. However i'm not sure if they would bother checking your proofs becuase you guys are already married. you should call cic and ask what they think, or just answer it separately on another paper and explain

Please see post below...

When we lived together, we didn't have anything in both our names...everything was separate...we just lived under the same roof...So is my interpretation correct? The keyword in this question is "previously"...which I interpret as a different partner...we lived together from June 2006 to May 2009 as boyfriend and girlfriend...then we got married...so I have no clue what CIC wants me to answer..."Yes" or "No"????

Question 14 of IMM0008 asks the same thing...

Thanks,
FS

It will be fine. They're looking for prior relationships, not the fact that your current relationship changed status.

Yes that's totally fine. The keyword here is "previous" marriages/relationships so you're golden :) I agree with computergeek

u can b only one the 3 civil status; in ur case married; now there r questions regarding the "living together" part; there u can say that u lived together before u were married and since when; and also periods of living together u will put also the one before u r married; u don't need to show proof of that since u apply under spouse category; even if u don't write them there, write it in ur essays, timeline, i think it's important for the relationship, so definately u need to mention it somewhere....
