Hi everyone,

I have become PR in October 2014. I was told that the new rule ( 4/6) will not be applicable to those who landed prior to the effective date of bill c24.

is that true?

I am just disappointed, I have been living in Canada since 2004 and it is just sad that none of my days in Canada will be counted.

Thank you

Yes under the new rules only days after you become PR count for citizenship requirement. So for you only time after Oct 2014 count.

You can thank the current Conservative government for that.

Unfortunately, the new residency requirement is expected to come into force some time this year. It will affect a lot of permanent residents who do not deserve it otherwise. All you can do at this point is stay positive and be patient. (I realize it's easier said than done, but we've all been there at once point.)

No, that is not correct. The new rules will be applicable to anyone whose application is received after the cutoff date (currently unknown, but thought to be June or July of this year). It doesn't matter that you landed before the new requirements take effect.

If you been living in Canada since 2004, why waiting (even 4yrs) to be eligible suddenly become an issue?
Disappointed about what?

The OP (in my opinion) took the long approach (not out of choice), probably struggled to get to the PR stage. He was hoping for pre-PR credit which now he may not get.

thanks all for the feedback.

I guess the conservatives pissed off a lot of potential citizens that will never vote for conservatives.

This is story of many people life.

I guess, we can only wait at this point of time.
