i have 2.5 Years of Experience in my own field. A friend of mine, who got PR 2 years ago told me that 2.5 Years experience is equivalent to "3 years or more" in CRS Calculator.

Is it true?

No - it's not true. Don't listen to your friend. 2.5 years of work experience is the equivalent of 2 years of experience.

Experience is counted based on number of hours with the condition of max 30 hours per week. So if you have more than 30 hours a week, it is a waste, if you have more than 1560 hours in a year, it is a waste. And to my knowledge, experience is counted in years, not half years or in between.
