Confusion - IMM 1344

Hi, I am a permanent resident of Canada and processing my wife's PR application who is currently staying with me in Canada now. Her status in Canada is "Study Permit". Now I have a question regarding the following point:

According to the Instruction Guide (IMM 5289), "Application to Sponsor, Sponsorship Agreement and Undertaking (IMM 1344)
Must be completed by the sponsor and his or her spouse or common-law partner."

So, my understanding is, my wife, who is the principal applicant, need to fill up this form as well. But some of the questions of this form seem really inappropriate from the applicant's point of view. For example,

i. Person you are sponsoring (Principal Applicant)?
Point of confusion: Should she write her own name here?

ii. Sponsor Personal details (i.e. full name etc.).
Point of confusion: Should she enter her own information here as well?

iii. Status in Canada?
Point of confusion: There are some pre-defined entries available to choose from. She is an international student here having a study permit. This field does not have any entry available indicating this status. And, if we leave this field blank, we cannot validate the form. What should we do?

Thank you for your time.

Thanks, but I am still confused. So, where should she sign? Should she fill up a separate copy of this form and then sign it there? Or, should she sign anywhere in my copy (sponsor's).

Only one copy of the form is needed. You fill it and you both sign it.

She will sign for "signature of sponsored person (PA)

Nobody signs the sponsor's spouse part as you have no co-signer.

Your wife does not have to fill out her own copy of this form. It is a form for the sponsor. When they say that the spouse or partner has to fill it out too, they are referring to cases where a couple are immigrating to Canada together, or where both are sponsoring someone else. In your case you fill it out; your wife does not. However, she has to sign it where they ask for the applicant to sign.

Your wife needs to sign the form.
I am trying to send the sponsorship application for my wife who is not in Canada. Do I have to send two copies of 1344 since they say both sponsor and main applicant should fill this form????
I appreciate your urgent response!

No, only one copy of the form, you both sign it where it indicates you should sign it. Both sponsor and principal applicant (your wife) sign the same form.

that form has to be filled in by both the sponsor and the Principal applicant ( the one who is being sponsored )
there are different sections to this form and on the top it says who has to fill em
  • When filling in the IMM 5532 – Relationship Information and Sponsorship Evaluation form, make sure you complete all of the sections on this form. The sponsor and applicant must sign the required signature boxes on the form as follows:
The sponsor must sign these sections:

  • Part A, #8
  • Part C, #12
The principal applicant must sign these sections:

  • Part B, #4
  • Part C, #13
Important: If you do not complete and sign this form in the correct places, we will return your application without processing it.
