Confusion Confusion *** Extend Stay in Canada ****

Hi Folks

I am a Visitor in Canada and landed on 29th Oct, 2016. My Passport doesn't have any stamp showing when I have to leave the country, however I know that I can stay only for 6 months from the date I landed in Canada. Six months will be completed on April 29, 2017. My Visa is valid until June 17, 2017.

If i apply for extension and get it....
Will that 6 month rule still apply? meaning I have to leave Canada on/before April 29th, 2017
OR
I don't have to leave Canada once extension is granted.

My logic pokes me that extension will only extend my visa from June 2017 onward (Actual visa expiry date) but I would still have to go out from Country after 6 months completed. I am getting mixed opinions from friends & family and confusing me.

Please help in getting to final conclusion.

Thanks
Nipur

If you apply to extend your visitor visa before your current allowed stay ends, then you can remain in Canada on implied status until you hear a decision on the extension application. If and how long an extension is granted is up to CIC. Yes - the extension can be granted past June 2017 (provided you passport has a validity past this date).

I am a US Citizen and have been in Canada under visitor status since November 1, 2016. The stamp on my US Passport shows that I have until April 30, 2017 in Canada. I will be applying for a visitor extension on Friday, March 31, 2016, which is the recommended one month before my visitor status expires. My question is, does anyone know how long it normally takes for Canada immigration to grant the visitor extension? I know I will legally be allowed to remain in Canada under implied status. My second question is, if my visitor extension is not granted, how long does Canada immigration give me to to leave the country? Is it immediate, or do they normally allow one month, three months, etc. for me to exit Canada? Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

You are expected to leave as soon as possible.

Thanks for the information. Do you have a link to the official wording from immigration about leaving "as soon as possible"?

I believe the accepted grace period is up to 30 days. However, during that time, you will be in Canada illegally, so it is best to leave as soon as you can.
