Hello people,

I have applied for MASc courses at two Canadian universities(Ryerson and Carleton). I already heard from Ryerson and will get an offer from them soon. I am totally confused about the study permit requirements though. Can someone answer these questions:

1. Is IELTS necessary for the visa application?

The universities I applied to didn't ask me for IELTS or any English test as I have done my undergrad from the UK. I am not sure if I will have to sit for IELTS exam just for the visa.

2. When do I have to do the medical test?

I am from Bangladesh and I understand that I have to undergo their medical testing. However, when will that take place? My classes will start from September I guess. If it takes multiple months for the test, how will it all work out?

1 answer: You donot need to sit for IELTS because you have done undergrad from UK.
2 Answer:You can go medical test in advance but you need offer letter from university. You have to submit your offer letter to listed physician to undergo medical test.....

Anyways what's ur application status at Carleton?

Thanks for the answers. I will get my medical done as soon as I get the offer letters.

It's the weekend there right now, so the status didn't change as they work from Monday-Friday. On my Carleton central, it says "Review in progress by department". Did you apply there too? I hope their response will be positive.

Hi fahim! Are you from a country thats required to undergo medical exam? If you are, you have two options.
1. Do upfront medical exam and submit the receipt/result together with your application.
Or
2. Lodge your application with a request for medical exam and wait for CIC's advice on where you can have a medical exam.

I hope that helps.

Hi

I am from BD too. i neither had to do IELTS for visa nor for admission.

As for medical, I was told by IOM (listed physician) that I cannot do medical before submission of visa application.

Accordingly once i submitted my visa application I got an email from singapore visa office with an attachment containing the IMM1017 medical form and saying i need to do the medical within the next 60/90 days.

U can call the listed physician of your choice and ask them the question about whether u can do medical before submitting visa application.

Hope this will help.

Good luck

Hi Divi707

Firstly are you from a country which needs both a TRV and study permit? if TRV is also needed you do not need to apply for it separately since you will be issued one once yr study permit application is approved. IF no TRV is needed, you can freely enter and re-enter Canada. Please note that Study permit and TRV are separate things though they are obtained by making one single study permit application.

I understand that the issue about multiple and single entry is decided by the Canada High Commission.

If TRV is needed and one is issued and it states single entry it means single emtry and emergencies are no exception to the rule. In case you want to get out of Canada, to re-enter Canada you will either need to obtain another TRV while you are still in Canada i.e. before leaving, OR obtain a TRV from the country you are visiting.

Hope this will help

When did they send you the email about the medical? Like, how many days after you submitted your application?

Can you please explain it to me?

This is what I am guessing happened:

- You applied for the visa ONLINE yesterday.
- Today you received an email from them asking you to do the medical test.

Am I correct? If yes, then I'll be happy. I don't want them to make me wait 2 months and then tell me to do a medical test.

Hi FahimBD

I submitted my paper application with all supporting documents (less medical examination report) on 20 OCT 2014 and got request for my medical on 27 OCT 2014.

PLease contact VFS and IOM (or the physician of your choice from the list in CIC website) to know whether they are currently allowing students to do medical up-front.

Good Luck
