confusion about pr card validity

hello experts..
im confused about pr card validity requirement for ohip.in the required documents sections it is written that " the pr card

• must be valid or expired no more than five years"

so if a PR card is expired in 2017 then can we submit the expired PR card as one of the 3 documents for OHIP card.

Have you entered Canada? That would the bigger problem if your PR card expired in 2017.

If you present an expired PR card you will likely have to show you met RO. Some people fon’t Travel out of Canada so don’t renew their PR card. They do meet their RO.

Service Ontario won't have anything to do with residency obligation as it affects PR status. As the OP is asking about OHIP, there are other documents (utility bills, lease/mortgage, etc.) that are used to determine residency in the Province of Ontario and the OP should be able to use the PR Card that expired to show proof of eligibility.

If you have an expired PR card and have never had a OHIP card you will need to show that you qualify to receive OHIP. Proof of residence from a recent utility bill or apartment lease will not be enough.

And an expired PR card (as long as not expired more than 5 years) is said proof of eligibility https://www.ontario.ca/page/documents-needed-get-health-card.

The OP stated that they have a PR Card that expired in 2017. The question was always relating to registering for OHIP. To do so, one must show three separate pieces of proof:

1. Proof of Canadian Citizenship or OHIP-eligible immigration status (fulfilled with expired in 2017 PR Card)
2. Proof of residency in Ontario (utility bill / mortgage / lease)
3. Proof of Identity (credit card / passport / driver's license)

Therefore, the answer to the OP's question is: yes, you can use an expired PR Card (that expired less than 5 years ago) to show proof of eligibility to register for OHIP.
