Confusion about CEC class

Hello Folks,

I have confusion and it is as following:

If a student passes the Pharmacy evaluation examination stage-1, he is able to work as a pharmacy technician.
If the same student works as a pharmacy technician and completes 1950 hours, can he apply for PR in CEC calss?
(*note: the student may/may not have the same course of study in Canada. I.e., may be graduate from any course like management)

It seems that you want to come Canada on a study permit and then work in your professional field after passing the licensing requirements. Smart!

Firslty, you are mixing up few points. CEC doesnt require you to work in the same field as of your studies. And CEC has two streams - Graduate Stream, Temporary worker stream.

If you want to come to Canada on study permit - only because that is the easier route and because of that you are thinking to go in any random program of a year - thats fine. What ever program you choose wont matter. Just try to get atleast 1 yr long program, so that you get 1 yr of open work permit.

Then you will have to work in Canada for 2 years. The first year is easy, you will have an open work permit. The second year, it all depends on your employer. If they want to keep you they can easily apply for another year's extension.

Once you have worked for 24 months full time in Canada, as per today's CEC rules which always keep changing, you will be eligible to apply for CEC.

You have to work 37.5 hours minimum each week for your job to be considered as full time job.

Now, you will have to check if your job title (pharmacy tech) comes under the NOC's 0, A or B skill categories. If it does, then go ahead with your plan.

Work experience while you are still a student is not eligible in the CEC program / post-graduate stream. It might be eligible under the foreign worker stream, but currently you need 2 years of experience (and 3900 hours of employment) to qualify.

Usually, CIC doesn't care if your occupation matches your program of study. There is one exception, and that is for regulated health professions, where you MUST earn a degree/diploma from an approved program or complete a bridging program in addition to other licensing requirements.

Pharmacy technician is a regulated health profession in some provinces and what you propose is simply not feasible; unless you are in a pharmacy program of education, I don't see this working either in the short or long-term.
