I am an American Citizen. I cam here to Canada using my passport card.

Since i elected to stay. i filed for visitors extension.

I filed promptly.

We used a Consultant to have this done online. We received word today that my extension was denied.

The reason it was denied was they will not accept my passport card. They want to see my passport book showing when i crossed the border via stamp.

I have a passport card as it is used to land and sea travel to and form Canada, Mexico etc. When i crossed the border into Canada they accepted my card.

Why would they refuse my passport card as a reason to refusing my extended stay?

I do not have a passport book, because when i applied i had no intention of traveling by plane and only intended traveling and visiting Canada.

Passport card is the same thing as a passport book except it is a wallet sized document intead of a book, and for land travel only between canada, usa, mexico and a few other places in W Hem.

Could or would someone please enlighten me on why this was revoked?

An actual passport is required when requesting a visitor extension (same rule applies to study permits, immigration applications and all other applications submitted to CIC). Your passport card is fine for entering Canada. However it cannot be used to request an extension.

Your consultant should have known this. If you paid a fee to the consultant, I would request a refund.

Where does it indicate that information?

Id like to know so that i can present this info to my Consultant.

I keep seeing and reading valid passport. The passport card is a passport. It just does not have a book. Us citizens as far as i understand are notrequired to have a stamp for entry. Now the concern is they want proof of entry via a stamp. The passport card has an rfid chip in it, along with a passport number. I would have assumed that this information ( date of entry) would have been recorded by the BP during crossing.

Scylla is 100 pecent right in this matter. Your passport card was given to you so that it would be easier for you to make back and forth trips to the US /Canada. As you mentioned you applied for extension or intented to remain there, this means you are requesting immigration benefit from the authority that is CIC. And CIC looks for real travel document, the old fashion internationally acceptd book kind of passport. For example You canot make international trips ecxept Mexico and canada with your passport Card but you can do it with your old fashion passport this is just an example how two things are different.
