Currently I am on student visa. I recently applied for spouse immigration (In land). My degree will be finished in August 2016. If I will also apply for OWP can i keep student and work permit status together?

Thanks in Advance

applying for sponsorship pr and holding/applying for study permit is irrelevant.

you are holding study permit and not gonna stop your studying,
you can work part time during the semester and full time on summer vacation.

you are eligible to apply for post graduate work permit which is for 3 -4 years after finished your study.

You can stay in Canada with your pgwp while waiting for PR.

... but what if you want to work and study, while PR is pending? is it possible to do both?
Yes, you can hold both at the same time.

we applied for OWP while waiting for PR to be processed, do we also need to apply for a separate study permit?

Yes. The OWP only allows work. If you want to study, you need to fulfill the study permit requirements. You can do courses that require under 6 months to complete, however. Or, you can go to school online from another country.

interesting, thanks for the info

where is this stuff stated on CIC sites if I may ask? curious about it as I know someone that took an online course that took him over a year to complete while he was on a work permit, would CIC be angry at him for that? There are so many little things to stress about, yet it seems difficult to find all the rules spelled out in one place, kind of unfair

Do I need a study permit?

Generally, foreign nationals must obtain a study permit in order to study in Canada.

However, foreign nationals may be exempted from requiring a study permit in the following situations:

Short-term courses of six months or less;
Family members or private staff accompanying a foreign representative accredited by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada; and
Members of the armed forces of a country designated for the purposes of the Visiting Forces Act.

thanks for the link MilesAway

it cleared up his situation further on that page so it seems he is ok:

"Are there activities for which a study permit is not required?

Yes, there are activities that do not require a study permit. Generally, a study permit is not required for:

attending preschool;
completing a distance learning program;
"

this seems to cover him for his online 1 year program, as it was completely online (ie. distance learning)

it says nothing about the school having to be located outside of Canada
