Hello All,

I had been wanting to move to Canada to my fiance but I am stuck in Pakistan because of my fathers ill health. What is the fastest option to immigrate with my family? Because if i ask my fiance to invite me there, she can sponsor me only and not my parents. I can only sponsor the parents if i get the PR and god knows how long that will take and i dont want to leave them behind all alone.

Can anyone make any suggestions? Should i apply for a TRV and then make my fiance apply for my spousal visa? Or should i choose my family and stay back since it will take so long? My father is in dire need of a better health care and my fiance cannot be left alone in Canada....

Kindly help :/

You don't qualify for a spousal visa yet. You need to be married or officially common-law before you can apply for your PR status. So all you can hope for now is a TRV.

Even after getting your PR status, it takes a long time for the parents sponsorship, and if a parent is in very bad health there's a good chance the application would be refused for medical reasons anyways.

The question on what you should do, is entirely up to you.

What you do is really your choice.

If you bring your father to Canada on a TRV then he won't qualify for free health care and you will have to pay for all of the expenses out of your own pocket (insurance also won't cover his care because his illness will be classified as a pre-existing condition). Paying for health care in Canada out of your own pocket will be extremely expensive. You are also correct in assuming that you won't be able to sponsor your parents for PR until you become a PR yourself and that the processing time for your parents' application will be years. Also, it's possible your parents may be denied PR due to your father's ill health and the burden this will place on the Canadian health care system.

If you cannot leave your parents all alone and your fiance cannot be left in Canada alone - then perhaps your fiance should consider moving to Pakistan to live there with you.

To the OP: I think this is the best option. It will simply take too long to first wait for your sponsorship to go through and then your parents. Judging from current timelines for parents sponsorship (5 years) on top of Islamabad for spousal sponsorship (3 years), you are looking at 8+ years even if all goes well. Looks like the best option is for your fiance to come to you in Pakistan.

Also before you fiance can sponsor you - you need to prove you are in a common-law relationship (living together for at least 12 months) or married. Since your last posts in 2012, it seems your fiance has been living in Canada for the past couple years and not with you. So you either need to get married or add another year to how long it will take...

thank you all for the replies. i think its best if I let her go since she is not willing to move here as moving to a third world country is going backward. My family means the world to me like anybody else's so im not leaving them alone anytime soon.

its just funny how immigration policies of a country can play with people's lives and have such a huge impact.

Yes but it's not just Canada. I don't think you would find any country in the world in which you could fast track having your parents move there permanently and be covered under a national health plan. All countries in the world would require you to go through certain stages/applications first.

In Canada if you got PR status, you could then get a super visa for your parents relatively quickly for them to stay with you for 2 years at a time before needing to renew it. This would allow them to come to Canada, but you would be responsible for buying them a private medical insurance plan.
