Hey guys,

I applied CEC in July. These days I am reading some posts here regarding one year work experience calculation triggering my nervous about my one year calculation.

My diploma was conferred in May, 2011(there is no exact which day issued.)
I held off campus work permit until 31st July, 2011
My PGWP period: 16th Aug, 2011 to 15th Aug, 2014
Full time working period: from 1st Jun, 2011 to 19th Aug, 2012
I applied for CEC on 4th July, 2012

My question is whether the two and half months gap ( between start working day of 1st Jun, 2011 to PGWP issued day of 16th Aug, 2011) would be counted to one year? Because I am thinking these 2 and half months were not under PGWP. (although they were under my off campus work permit and period of waiting for my PGWP ). What exact day do they start to count for one year? From the day of my start working after grabbing dipolma or the day of PGWP issued?

Thanks

It's a bit subjective, and the interpretation by officers does not seem entirely consistent.

However, generally the key date is your graduation (i.e. degree conferred). The Immigration Act, nor the CIC website, says that the experience must be gain on the post-graduation work permit explicitly. It does say that the experience cannot be counted until graduation, and working during your degree won't count.

In my opinion (which has no bearing on the CIC officer processing your case), your application is eligible as you gained the full year after graduation (regardless that the 2 1/2 months we acquired on the OCWP after graduation). If your application is rejected, I think you would have a good case for an appeal once you state the case and quote the act (as well as show the timeline where you graduated/received your degree).

same case is in my application, i started full time work on 2nd May 2011, bt my graduation held in june and i recieved my PGWP in september 2011...
I applied in oct 2012.. i think it should be okay and understood that i have completed more than one year after graduation. though i applied after 18 months of full time work and start date was written in my reference letter.. it should not create any problem at all..

Thanks. Hope God bless me:-)
