Question 6A
Write the date when you became a permanent resident (landed immigrant).

This one is very clear and specific

Question 6B
Write the date when you first came to Canada to live.

When does 6B apply? If I'm a landed immigrant and never been to Canada before the landing date. Is this date different for me?
If I landed spent a few weeks in Canada then returned to home country and then returned back to Canada would this date be different?

For example:
1st Feb 2012 - Landing date, doing SIN number, open bank account etc
16th Feb 2012 - exiting Canada back to home country

1st April 2012 - back to Canada, after closing everything in home country (finishing work etc)

Does it mean I need to fill
6A) 1st Feb 2012

6B) Is it "1st Feb 2012" or "1st April 2012"?

If 6B is the second answer, can I use the 1st-16th Feb on my Physical presence calculator, as being physically in Canada?
(I'm not really relying on these 16 days towards 1460 days, as I have > 1520 days already, Just want to be as accurate as possible)

Sorry for long question but I called the IRCC call center and they were not helpful beside sending me to the online guide I already read ...

Hi,

As per my knowledge in your case your 1st February 2012 would be your both "date when you became a permanent resident" and "the date when you first came to Canada to live."

Suppose you came to Canada with a Student Visa or a Work Permit (Remember you are not a Permanent Resident yet) on 01-Jan-2010 then this date will be your date when you first came to Canada to live. And suppose you got your Permanent Resident Status on 01-Jan-2014. Then this date i.e. 01-Jan-2014 will be your date when you became a permanent resident

Seniors, my apologies if this is a wrong information

Thanks

Yes, you are correct. Question 6B is for people who lived in Canada before their landing date.

Since pre-landing credit was cancelled with 4/6 rule. Why is this date important in the new forms?

It's likely something they saw no reason to remove when the forms were updated...information they wanted to have even if there was no credit attached. Of course, if/when Bill C-6 passes, the credit will be back.

Probably they want to run a criminal check from the date you initially came to Canada. Also, if they see any entry/ exit records related to those dates before you became a PR, want to confirm the period.
