Confused about *maintained status*

Somewhere I think I read that person can work, and study while waiting on decision from IRCC.
Another place, I'm sure I read person should halt studying, and working until decision from IRCC.
Please Clarify

If you have applied for study permit and are currently on a study permit (before expiry) you can study, the same way applies for a work permit. You CANNOT start studying if you are on a work permit before getting explicit approval. Vice versa, you CAN start working if you have completed your intended studies and have applied for a work permit.

In case your status expired (you have to file for restoration), in such cases (be work permit or study permit) you have to stop the activity until you hear from IRCC.
