My wife is a US citizen and I am a green card holder.

I received an email from CIC stating the following

Note: As of December 1, 2011, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) will no longer issue a Permanent Resident counterfoil to applicants from visa exempt countries. All applicants approved for permanent residence, whether they hold a passport from a visa exempt country or from a country requiring a visa for Canada, will continue to be issued a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) document.

Does that mean I can land without getting the visa on my passport (GC holder does not require a visa to visit Canada)?
Do I need to send Right of Permanent Residence Fee and the photos? or can I submit them to the officer during landing procedure?

Thanks

Hi!

Please check the following link

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2011/ob348a.asp

You would not require a visa to be pasted on your passport but you still need COPR (confirmation of permanent residence) document.

You can land with out getting a visa on your passport but you would still require COPR document for landing. Normally people from non visa exempt countries gets visa pasted on passport and COPR document at the same time so I guess every thing would be same for you except no visa will be pasted on your passport and I also guess you would still require to pay RPRF before issuance of COPR and also need to send photos like any other non visa exempt applicant.

One thing more, issuance of COPR will also take same time as (issuance of COPR + visa) for any non visa exempt country applicant. So nothing much of benefit if you are from visa exempt country apart from not having visa pasted on your passport. Thanks

Yes the COPR document is the main document needed to complete record of landing.

The sticker in the passport was just a one-time visa to allow entry into the country prior to PR card arriving. Since applicants from visa-exempt countries did not require it, I guess CIC felt it was a waste to provide them.

Friends of mine had to send their passports from Canada to the UK, only for CIC to return them without sticking anything in them. Why they couldn't have just sent them the COPR forms I have no idea.

Wayne.

Can I ask them to send COPR to Egypt since I will be here on a vacation for a couple of month instead of sending them to my home address in Canada???

As Wayne suggested you would still need to send your passport + pictures to get just COPR document. If your visa office is USA and you filed your application from USA I don't think so they will send passport + COPR to a different country but better you check with them via email. Thanks

If you are from a visa exempt country you only need to send photocopies of each page of your passport including front and back cover.
