Now I'm confused about the documents my husband needs in hand when he enters Canada.

He has the foil visa in his passport saying permanent resident and two copies of COPR (Confirmation of Permanent Residence). One paper has a photo, the other does not, and he received 4 of his photos loose in a little envelope.

Each copy of COPR is stamped "Not valid for travel". There is a space at the bottom for the IO and my husband to sign and date.

Since they say not valid for travel, does that mean he needs something else? Will they be mailing a PR card to our address in Canada that he needs before we travel?

Also, I was told that it's important to get a stamp in the *passport* on the day of landing for future proof of the date residency began, otherwise there can be disputes and some poor folks have been deported because they appear not to have stayed the required number of days.

As your husband has a visa foil in his passport (I assume this is marked IM-1) He has everything that he needs.

All you need is a) to get to Canada (that's the visa), b) His passport (obviously) and c) the 2 copies of the COPR. He doesn't NEED anything else. He may wish to import some items, in which case he should be bringing B4/B4a forms as required. The passport stamp and annotation by the BSO are done automatically if the BSO is doing their job correctly.

Hello. Congrats to you and your husband the long wait is finally over!!!! We went through the mexican office and my husband landed over a month ago. Yes the Copr says not validfor travel but that means after he lands he cant use that Copr to travel elsewhere until his pr card arrives. It is very important that he does not sign the copr before he lands. That copr has to be signed when he lands infront of an immigration officer. Who will then keep the copy with the photo attached as that photo will be used for his pr card.

Thank you both, very helpful to have it clarified.

I'm going to post another thread about goods to follow.
