Hi, I read in the sponsorship guide for common-law that if the relationship is 2 years or less and there are no children, they will receive "conditional permanent resident status" if the application is approved

I thought that with the new Liberal government, this was to be changed? Also what exactly does conditional pr mean and by 2 years, do they mean 2 years of living together common law?.

It means that after you become a PR, you must live with your sponsor in a genuine relationship for 2 years. That's all.

PR is granted immediately upon landing. condition 51 is to protect sponsors from people who marry someone just to get pr. the sponsor is still financially responsible for that person even if the relationship breaks down.
