Hello guys,

My boyfriend (Canadian citizen) and I have been living together for about a month. When we started dating I knew he was living paycheck to paycheck and just a little bit of some. Eventually, we'll discuss about him sponsoring me to stay in Canada.

My concern is that since he still has years of debts and loans to pay back, will that affect our application in the future? He has been working for a couple of years now and even during lockdown he's still working.

Hope somebody can help. Thanks.

It won't be an issue as long as he's not on social assistance.

Thank you again. :) I have another concern, my boyfriend's debts had been sent to collections some time in the past though he said he already paid them off. Will that be an issue for his eligibility?

Only if he has filed for bankruptcy. That would make him ineligible to sponsor you.

It doesn't really make sense for his debts to be sent to collections if he has already paid them off. Might want to check that out.

He paid off his debts when they were in collections. He said it affected his credit line and it'll be hard to loan from the bank.

He never filed for bankruptcy nor asked for any social assistance. I'm just worried about his current debts and how much he still owes. I don't think he has savings. He has a stable job, just not good at handling finances.

That's more of an issue for you too to discuss. Not a problem for immigration.

No bankruptcy, No Social assistance. You're Golden.
