Hi everyone,

I am in Canada, and after I got my ITA I submitted my Express Entry profile on the 6th of March 2016. It has been more than 6 months since I applied, and the wait has been frustrating, but that's not the reason I am making this post.

My passport will expire at the end of December. And due to the issuing of new passports in my home country, my embassy is asking me to give them the old passport, and wait approximately 3 months for the new one.

What can I do?

If I give my passport to the embassy, and the next day CIC calls me asking for my passport, what do I do?

Can I tell them to wait 3 months til I get a new one?

Is sending the physical passport an absolute must, when CIC asks for it?

Is there a time limit for sending the passport after you get a PPR?

I am really freaking out here. And I am trying to call the Call Centre, but I cant catch those guys. Has anyone here ever faced something similar?

Any help is much much appreciated.

It's a tricky situation because even for PPR, your passport must be valid for atleast 6 months.

Official instructions with PPR, so better check with CIC.

We are unable to issue a visa beyond the expiry date in your passport. Your passport must be valid for at least six months.

Also pass port has to be submitted within 30 days of PPR request.

Raise a CSE with your respective VO. Ideally you should have re-newed your passport and then applied. I did the same as my passport was about to expire in 10 months.

Hi,

I am having the same issue with my husband. He was about to renew his passport when we got his PPR. BTW they need the passport to be atleast 12 months valid. I was only given 30 days to submit the passport. I am really stressed out as we are still waiting for the new passport to be sent back to us. I is pretty difficult to get an appointment for passport renewal here in the Philippines and it takes time for them to release the new one. Now we are waiting for the passport to be sent to us by the crappy courier service.

Anybody who requested extension for PPR submission? Were there any other complications met?

Thank you!

Thank you for your reply. I will be contacting my embassy in a couple of minutes to see if I can request urgent processing again, though I doubt it.

You're talking about this form, right?
https://secure.cic.gc.ca/enquiries-renseignements/canada-case-cas-eng.aspx
Well I did fill it up, and I explained my situation very clearly. 2 days later I got a response from CIC saying (My application is "in progress"). I doubt a human being even read my message.

I hope your problem gets solved fast. We are in the same boat here.

I wonder if there is any way we can inform CIC that our passports are "on the way". Maybe if we can get a paper from the embassy saying that they have the passport, maybe that will give us an extension.

I dont know, I am totally lost here.

Yeah I know, normally it takes a week to 10 days to renew the passport. But my home country (Lebanon) decided to start issuing a new set of passports, one that includes biometric chip inside them. Thats why this is not purely a passport renewal, as much as it is a brand new passport.

I have consulted with the lawyer and according to her we will wait for the new passport. If it does not arrive less than 1 week before the deadline, I will be asking for the extension. But according to her it would still depend on the visa officer if he/she will approve the extension. Let's hope we meet the initial deadline to avoid unnecessary complications.

Hi Mohamad,

I'm Lebanese too, and I know what a pain in the ass the Lebanese diplomatic missions abroad can be.

HEre's what you need to do: Get in touch with your visa office, using the email they sent you the PPR from, and also raise a CSE. Inform them of the situation, and ask for an extension for the PPR letter because you need to renew your passport, and it will take 3 months to do that. They're usually understanding, and can put your application on hold until you submit the new passport.

Once you get confirmation back from them, you can send your passport to be be renewed (by the way, you can no longer renew Lebanese passport - they will issue you a new one.)

Also, call CIC, and check if you can send your soon-expiring passport to get stamped, and then you can bind it to the new passport, which the Lebanese embassy will issue to you. Some countries, like the USA, accept that.

PS: what country do you live in?

Good luck!

Hi friends,

I have applied for PPR on April 2nd. My Husband's passport six month validity gets over by Dec 3rd.

Is it ok to renew his passport before we receive PPR. Will it result in any complications as we have given his current passport number and police verfication certificate? :(

Kindly Advise.

Thank you.

Hi Azulete,

My husband's passport is renewed after PPR and before we submit the passports. The passports should be atleast 12 months valid. I was advised just to include a cover sheet indicating the renewal of the passport and a photocopy of the old passport. I have yet to submit our passports tomorrow since I had other issues today while submitting. However, the officer at the VFS office already saw the new passport and the letter. It does not seem to be an issue.

Thank you for your guidance. But will it be ok to renew before receiving PPR. We have not received our PPR yet.
