Hello,
My name is Abdullah Nawaz Sheikh and I am currently an international student in Canada. I wanted to get some information regarding a bit of a confusing situation I am currently in.
My current passport expires December 8th 2024, due to which my study permit was also issued according to my passport's expiration date. I still have 2 more years left in University and as such would need to extend my study permit.
The issue I am running into is the renewal of my passport. I have already applied for the renewal of my passport almost a month ago and was supposed to receive it 2 weeks after my application was processed. However, I am running into issues with my country's government with the renewal process as their website does not communicate the required documents properly and received remarks that I need to submit the appropriate document, which I did yesterday.
I am worried that I will be receiving my passport a few days after my current study permit expires, especially since CanadaPost is now on strike and will cause delays. I have already researched a bit regarding this situation and found that I can still apply for a restoration within 90 days of expiry, but I would need to stop studying and working immediately. This is an issue as this would delay my graduation and also stop me from working part-time.
I wanted to get information regarding this specific situation. Is there any way I could submit my extension application prior to expiry and provide the updated passport once its received to acquire 'maintained status'? Are there any other alternatives to avoiding the restoration process and losing my student status?
If anyone has any experience with a similar situation please let me know.
