Hi please listen to my concern. I graduated college 2012 April. and my post grad work permit was issued 2012 August. to 2015 August. I started my job

2012 in May by using student work permit(this turned to be post grad work permit in the August 2012). I am still working at same FF company in Customs broker

department as customs rater with little payment i believe, this is job level B, and Since I am enrolling in intership program(only in the company), I will have to go to Air

department from Jan 1st 2013 and my job tittle will be shipping coordinator, i believe this job is also Job level B and here is a problem. I have 2 questions

1 I will have worked as customs rater for 4month the enod of this year(I started working by post grad work permit from Spe 1st) and I will be forced to

change my job ttittle(that is what the intership is......the company said) If I work as Job level B and Job Level B. Can I accumulate two jobs to one year

expernince to get qulaified CEC rpogram? most likely 4moths for the Cusomts department and 8 months for Air deparetment.

2 second question is that since I enroll in intership program, the salary is $10.25 houry(min wage in Ontario).....is this no problem???

please answer the two questions

sincerely

Naoki

You can have more than one job in a given year to satisfy the requirements of CEC. However, you must make sure that your job is classified under Skill Level 0, A or B. Otherwise you wont qualify. Also, only your experience under PGWP will count towards CEC. Any experience under Off Campus Work Permit will not be counted (regardless of the skill level).

You can go on this link to find the wage scales for your NOC in your locality.

http://www.workingincanada.gc.ca/report-eng.do?action=display_allnoc

I would first inquire about the NOC Codes for both your positions, and wouldnt worry too much about the pay scale. Good luck!

When your job title changes in January of 2013, will your pay raise?? or it stays the same @10.25/hr ?? here are some Shipping Coordinator positions available according to workingincanada.ca

http://www.workingincanada.gc.ca/job_search_results.do?searchstring=shipping+coordinator

you can compare your salary to the positions listed here to see what the average pays are around.

Much appreciated for your replies.

Hi Redandblack,
Why is the off campus work permit not counted? I have already finished college when I started working as an Intern. I thought what Canadian Immigration cared about was the one year work experience no matter what permit I am holding.
Thank you for your help in this regard.

I dont really know the reason behind this rule but unfortunately it is what it is. Technically, if you have accumulated good experience during school, you should be in a good position to land a skilled job. Plus you have 3 years to get one year experience in a qualified position.

this is from the CIC site:

"If you are no longer a full-time student or do not maintain satisfactory academic results, you must return your work permit to a local Citizenship and Immigration Canada office."

which means after you graduated in April of 2012, it technically expires because Off-campus work permits are meant for students. the experiences during your off-campus work permit doesn't count because you can only work 20 hours / week during the school year and only full-time (37.5/wk) experiences can count towards CEC. So only your full-time working experience after you received your PGWP (August, 2012) counts toward your CEC experience. If you don't take any vacations or time off, you are eligible for CEC on August of 2013 (but if you are not in a hurry, I'd work until September just incase)

http://www.students.ubc.ca/international/international-students/working/offcampus-work/applying-for-a-permit/

quoting from UBC website "After you complete your studies, you are permitted to work full-time for three months with a valid off-campus work permit."

YES, the one year of experience can be more than one job.

2 second question is that since I enroll in intership program, the salary is $10.25 houry(min wage in Ontario).....is this no problem???

The salary is not your problem. You need to confirm the correct NOC for both positions, as there is the potential that they would be classified as unskilled (and therefore, would not qualify). You need to match the job duties of each position to the best NOC - and go from there... For example, unless the shipping coordinator position includes supervising other employees, it might not be accepted as a skilled position.

quoting from UBC website "After you complete your studies, you are permitted to work full-time for three months with a valid off-campus work permit."

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/op/op25-eng.pdf

From OP25 CEC on page 18 - 9.11. Work experience:

"For the Post-Graduation Stream, the applicant must have obtained 12 months of fulltime equivalent Canadian skilled-work experience within the 24 months preceding the date of application. This experience must be acquired after they have completed the required program of study and obtained a Canadian educational credential. (Work performed under the Off-Campus Work Permit Program or on a co-op work term does not count). The applicant does not have to be employed at the time of application, but they must have temporary status during the period of work experience. Any periods of self-employment or unauthorized work will not be included in calculating the period of work experience"

The question is, whether work experiences during transition time between off-campus work permit and PGWP counts. By what most people has said on this forum, CIC Call Centre officers tell them only work performed under PGWP counts. Since there is no definite answer from CIC regarding transition time working experiences, it's more safe to work an extra 4 months under your PGWP to be safe instead of counting your experiences from your off campus work permit.

Here's what I make of it:
1. graduation ceremony in April 2012

2. post graduate work permit(PGWP) issued August 2012

3. started working in May 2012 under off-campus work permit - the work experience from May 2012 - August 31, 2012 will not be counted towards the 1 year skilled work experience required for CEC. That means you need to have at least 12 more months of skilled work experience beginning from Sep 1st. If you continue to work full - time, you will be eligible to apply from Sep 2nd, 2013.

As others have pointed out, make sure your main duties are consitent with the NOC code you choose.

Here's a thread that may shed more light on when to begin counting work experience: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/application-rejection-on-technicality-help-t124203.0.html

Hi guys Thank you for response.

Hi Johnny31, Most likely, my wage will increase when my intership contract terminates and get renewed

Yesterday, I just found out that my job tittle is "Intership Student" i got surprised and asked HR department to change my jobtittle to Customs rater

(Present) and shipping coordinater(from Jan 2013), and they refused my request somehow.....but they said that they would offer Job letter(Duty and

responsibility)thses letter should be stated same duty as customs rater and shippimng coordinater. then, I called CIC call center to make sure if this is still

acceptable, and they said that "everything depends on the duty and responsibility letter(JOb letter??)", and job tittle does not affect to CEC program. This

means that although my job tittle is Intership Student, I am still eligiable to apply PR under CEC(If my job for duty and responsibility is considered NOC level 0 or A or B )

they also said that wage does not affect to CEC program either.

BUT, I doubt CIC officers although some of the officers do not have enough knowlege nor criteria for PR, they response to potential applicants. I will call

CIC again and ask exact same questions Next Monday and post here what they say.

I would like you guys to advise me since many of you have seen many cases through this website.

what do you think my situation?? in the worst case i will start looking for new job while working, please advise me.

Sorry to bother you guys and have a great weekend.

Will your job title still be "Internship Student" after January of 2013?? if so, i'm not sure what NOC # it belongs to. I honestly haven't heard of a job title being called "Internship Student".

The reason why I shared with you the avg salary of your position is when the avg salary of your job is 35K and you are only making 20K, it could be questioned by the VO b.c of the large differences. This wouldn't lead to a rejection, but it could give the VOs an excuse to dig into your work experiences. But you are correct about salaries wouldn't be the main reason for a rejection.

Hi Johnny 31, Thank you the quick response. my intership contract will be terminated March 31 2013, so at least by then my job tittle will be "Intership

Student" and most likely i will be hired as shipping coordinater(NOC 1315.... i still have to check this)(but possible to get kciked out).

do you think this is problem? and i do not know what the VOs is......

I have prepare document for that???

please tell me

Thank you

Naoki

Sorry, I'm just a bit confused. So after March 31, 2013, your job offer letter will have "Shipping Coordinator" as your job title? if so, i don't see that it's a problem. But since your experience before being hired as "Shipping Coordinator" is being labeled "Intership Student", I'm not sure if it could be counted towards CEC because this might confuse the Visa Officers.

But if you indeed hired by your company as a Shipping Coordinator after 3/31/2013, you work experiences are eligible for CEC 1 year after working under that title (April of 2014).

VO = Visa Officer

Hi Johnny 31,

when I started FF company(2012 May 1st), i got contract for 1 year as "intership student" to (2013 March 31st, when my offcampus workpermit expires)

and then I applied Post Grad Work permit and issued 2012 August. From 2012 in May, 1 year contract started by Off Campus Work Permit and turned to be

PGWP. the company assigned me to go to 2 depaertments (Customs and Air depaertment) for the 1 year.(Cusotms 8moths and Air department 4moths)

my job for customs department will be done the end of 2012, and air department will start 2013 Jan as part of intership program. My company said that,

after the termination of the intern(2013 March 31), I will be hired as shipping coordinater(just oral promise...but they are saying so...). yes If my company

does not breark the word, I will be qualifed for CEC 2014 April.

I am thinking about what the CIC officer says yesterday .... my jobtittle does not really affect to CEC.... Then I should give a shot

2013 Sep??(one year experince of 8mouths at Customs rater and 4 mouths shipping coodinater... ((my job tittle is intern student though....)))... and even

if I got rejected, i Would reapply 2014 April(if I am indeed hired on March 2013).

Johnny 31, I have question, is there any penalty for the rejection?? I am thinking about applying 2013 Sep If CIC officer says same thing as what they said

Yesterday(Job tittle does not affect .....CEC)

sorry to bother you. please answer my question.

Thank you
