Hi,

When it comes to a common-law partner, does it matter as to where the cohabitation takes place? What if cohabitation happened in one of the countries in the Middle East? Can that be considered as cohabitation despite that living together out of wedlock is against their law?

Canada doesn't care, the cohabitation can be anywhere.

Note though that some documentary evidence of living together can be quite a lot harder to get in some countries - if you don't have things like lease in both names, joint bank accounts, etc. You want to look really carefully at what you can document.

If you can't document fully, marriage may be substantially more simple - the test of documentary evidence of cohabitation can be quite strict/rigorous.

Up to you of course.

Good luck - to draw attention to one bit, you need firm and solid documentation of the start of your period living together. (Obviously more than 12 months before the date you apply).

A fair number of apps get hung up on weak evidence of the start date of cohabitation, if they don't have specific evidence (like joint lease).
