I was wondering how long do I have to live with my boyfriend in ontario before I can claim common law and sign up for permanent residency and a open work permit?

I read somewhere that its three years, everyone else has been telling me its two years. Some people told me that its one year so I am really confused. In a couple months it will be a full year we been living together in canada.

You become common-law exactly 12 months after living together continuously. Example, you moved in together on Jan 1st, 2012, then you became common-law on Jan 1st, 2013.

You understand that you don't "sign up" for PR and an OWP? Your boyfriend must sponsor you. As for the OWP, you would only receive it if you apply inland and even then, it would be 6-8 months before you get it.

I am applying inland as I live with him here in canada. I will have to renew my temporary visitor status soon. He plans on sponsoring me but I am worried about money issues. Will he be refused because he doesn't make a lot of money?

There is no set amount of money he needs to be making. He can't be on welfare and you guys have to show that you can support yourselves without claiming welfare.

Just because you're living in Canada doesn't mean you have to apply Inland. You can still apply Outland, especially if you're visa exempt. Many visa exempt applicants are finished (as in, have their PR) within the same time it takes just to get Stage 1 done with Inland (that's when you get the work permit).
