Hi - I initial.y received a 2 year open work permit via my common law partner. It is noted on the work permit that I am a common law partner to the principal applicant under remarks/observervations. The question is she informs the CIC that we are no longer common law will my work permit be removed?

I am currently in full time work with a good employer but I am concerned I may have to leave the country as my work permit would become invalid.

I have never heard about such a case. Have you tried calling CIC and asking? You don't have to tell them your name, just a hypothetical question. You could also ask an immigration lawyer.

Personally, I find it less likely that they will bother cancel your work permit because you broke up. It's going to expire anyway and will not be renewed. However, you should talk to your employer about applying for your LMIA if you want to continue working there unless you have a sure way of applying for PR in the meantime.
