Hi,
I am about to fill out IMM5708 to extend my stay as a visitor in Canada.

Now I am not sure if I should write that I am in Common Law or still Single status?

9 a) Your current material status?
single or common law
and b) Provide the date on which you were entered into Common Law Relationship?

I do live since over a year together with my boyfriend ... but we are still getting all the paper together to apply for Common Law!
Question:
When should I write that I am Common Law ... after they proofed we are living as Common Law together?
until then I am still Single?

Or is it doesn't matter for the Visitor Visa application and I just write Status: Single!

And what date do they want? The date we moved together? or???

thanks a lot everybody!
:) ;) :D

9a.
Common-law

9b.
one year AFTER you started living together;that's the date that you officially became a common-law couple.

If you were to mistakenly state that you are single on IMM 5708 and then later claimed to have been common-law (at the same time) when you provide the same information on your sponsorship application...you can see how that would be a problem, right.

You are NOT single...and your boyfriend is now your common-law partner.

okay thanks!

and what would be the purpose of my visit - Tourist Visitor visa- ?

Tourism
or Others (and I write will apply for Common Law Sponsorship)???

thanks again!

How close are you to submitting your PR sponsorship application package?

If possible, pay the fees for that and include a copy of the receipt with your extension request. It's very common for people to extend their stay while they await their PR application approval.

I'd suggest choosing: Other, and indicating your intent to apply for PR sponsorship.

Oh...and since you're `officially' common-law, make sure [either of] you don't file your taxes as single!
