Common law sponsorship

Hi, My partner came to Canada in 2019 and I came to Canada in 2021, after a few months we shifted together in 2021 and we have been living together since then. His work permit is about to expire in 3 months and we are planning to apply for common law work permit extension. (Both of us are still on our work permits) but we have not declared common law yet during tax filing because we were not aware of it. We just need clarity on how we should declare it to CRA and if it is necessary? We recently declared Common law on paper and got the IMM5409e form notarized. Please suggest, we are running short on time and are looking for quick fix.

You have to refile for every year you were common law.
