Hi guys,

I am wondering if anyone can help me. We are applying inland for common law sponsorship, however my boyfriend has not done his taxes since 2008. So we have sat down and gone back to do them. It looks as though he owes $3000 but we are hoping to set up a payment plan for this. I have them ready to send to revenue canada and hopefully after they are processed I can get an Option C printout. Would there be any issues in his being able to sponsor me as he owes taxes?

He also claimed EI this year as he was in school for 2 months (part of his apprenticeship) - should claiming EI affect his sponsoring me?

Any help and advice would be most apprieciated!

Thanks!

although Im not a lawyer, I would assume (I hate that word !) that all taxes would need to be paid before they would approve 1st stage.

I dont think UI is a problem. Collecting welfare is !

Maybe someone can confirm. Best of luck !

Is he currently employed with a provable income?

Yes he is employed full time. Just 2 months of the year he goes to school for his job (which he doesnt get paid for, so he claims EI).

Darn it....I am desperate to get my PR....my only other route would be through Canadian Experience Class as I have been in a managerial position for 2 years - Retail supervisor.....though it says that you need qualifications in this? Do you know if this is necessary to apply for CEC?

Than I think you have nothing to worry about as long as there is no evidence of criminal tax evasion. This seems to be covered by the fact that you are planning to correct the tax status situation.

We are applying outland, and my boyfriend is my sponsor. He's also behind with his taxes about 4 years. Everything is approved here, I'm going to be landing on May 7th. So, I don't think it's a problem at all.
