Yeah sure, they’re here in the UK but to my knowledge have dual citizenship; they are also registered with iccrc.

The reason why we went down the consultant route is when we initially were preparing our application and I received my UK police certificate I hadn’t realised two arrests from when I was under 18 would mean the cert displayed ‘no live trace’. I guess I freaked out and wanted to make sure it was dealt with by someone with experience of these situations.

On their advice I ended up doing a rehab app to confirm admissibility prior to preparing our sponsorship app. It ended up with the VO in London cancelling it because I wasn’t inadmissible and the app wasn’t necessary, I assume because I was under 18 when it happened (and it was like 15 years ago). It was a relief and we just decided to move forward with the rest of the app with them.

We’ve probably unnecessarily spent quite a lot of money but it means a lot to us. I was hoping it would remove doubt rather than cause it though!
Hm. Your consultant should have known that arrests don't make people inadmissible and that rehabilitation is only possible from convictions...

Perhaps that was poorly worded on my part; I was arrested and got warnings, so thus ‘convictions’.

You sound confident, which is awesome!

May I ask why? We have a consultant, he’s making out like it’ll be problematic.
As already said, previous relationships, particularly when people are not just 20 years old, are typical for pretty much everyone (ignoring cultural implications of those who aren't allowed relationships before marriage, etc.).

Honestly, consultants tend to suck.

As you were under 18 and it was that long ago, the consultant really should have known what convictions would have required rehabilitation and that a it wasn't needed in your case.

Honestly, with the benefit of hindsight and with a clearer head on the situation than I had then, I’d probably have approached it differently and gone ahead with our sponsorship app and provided the required documentation there.

Just to confirm a couple of things; the common law is considered over once one of the partners decides to stop the relationship, the date they actually move out of the property is irrelevant right?

Also, slightly off topic, if I can’t remember for certain if I finished one of my college courses back in 2006 will it matter if I say I was awarded a diploma/certificate for it? I think I did complete it but I’m not 100.

Hi Everyone,

May I please ask for your help regarding sponsoring my common law in the Philippines? I hold a valid work permit and landed Canada back in June 2019. My partner and I have been together for over 7 years and had our Holy Union last December 2019.

Is it possible to get a Statutory Declaration for Common Law here in Canada even if he is in the Philippines?

Thank you everyone.

Doesn't matter.
