Just about to mail in our application!

My common law partner plans on visiting me here in Canada in January while our PR app is in process. Should he have a copy of the receipt of payment for our PR application
Upon entering Canada Will he be held against entrance at the border because he could intentionally have intent in staying in Canada? We're not too sure
If he will actually be in Canada till the entire process in complete as he has a job in Italy. He'll probably get his ticket for a 3 month period and if an extension is needed we will apply.

Do you have any experience with this?

Thanks for the help!

Yes, he should have receipt of payment with him, and if you get Sponsorship Approval before he flies, he should print that out and bring it too.

However, it would not be the best idea to give that to the border control officer until asked. Just have it on hand in case he is asked to show them.

It should be alright as long as he says he is visiting you, and looks like it (don't bring over furniture, electronics, 10 suitcases etc). I'm guessing he wouldn't, but don't ever mention the word "move". The choice of words seem to be quite important for CBSA. If he has a return ticket, that's great. They will be more easily convinced that he isn't planning to stay here illegally. As long as the officer is reasonably satisfied that your common law partner understands that he is here as a visitor and cannot work or study, and that he cannot stay longer than 6 months without applying for an extension, it should be fine. Lots of people (myself included) came to Canada while their Outland app was processing, and it's very rare for anyone to be denied entry. If he stays calm everything should be quite smooth. (Don't get flustered even if they ask the same question multiple times - they're trying to see if you get nervous and start giving different answers.)

Good luck!

Also bring a job letter from his employer in Italy, stating he has a current job and is returning back to it. He should not have a problem entering Canada.
