Hi,

I am gathering 12 months proof for common-law.

Is the following enough or too much?

For each month:
  • Electricity bill showing both our names + address
  • My personal bank statement showing only my name + address
  • Her personal bank statement showing only her name + address
  • Joint bank statement showing both our names + address
  • Internet bill showing only my name + address
  • My cellphone bill showing only my name + address
  • Her cellphone bill showing only her name + address

This is already 84 documents, excluding other proofs (letters, insurance, travels, photos, etc.). Is it too much?

Is it worth sending the lease, since it shows only my name? (I could not amend her name)

Thanks

I don't believe you need 12 months of proof, only proof that you are common law which would be all of those documents but not 12 months worth. I submitted those items, utility bill, house insurance, vet bills for our dog in both names and then ones in our own name cellphone etc and I received my AOR on the weekend.

Probably not for every month, say three, one showing the earliest date, one in the middle and a new one. As you have a joint bank account, I wouldn't bother with the separate bank accounts. Good idea to get the lease in joint names. Also, mention on your application form that these are a selection of the stuff you have and would be happy to send loads more on request (chances are they won't ask!).

Hi there!
Is life insurance, 14 months of joint rent receipts, and a notarized IMM 5409 form proof enough to apply under common-law?

I'll provide my own answer to that matter to provide some closure: Yes that was enough. We also added photos of us, although it seemed to carry less weight.
