So my common-law partner and I have just finished getting our Partner visa application ready and we will be sending it this week along with his open work permit application.

Only problem is, we have just realized that when he entered Canada, he was only granted 3 months and therefore his visitor visa will be expiring in a week.

How can we go about avoiding him needing to leave the country? Is it too late to extend, or will applying for the common-law visa automatically put him on a bridging visa?

Feeling very stressed as we don't want him to overstay :(

Apply to extend the visitor status online. It costs $100. It’s imperative that you do it before the visa expires. Once you apply for the extension, he will be on implied status. Your partner MUST have status to be eligible for the OWP, so apply for the extension ASAP (like, tomorrow!)

Thank you! That leads me to my next question: to extend his tourist visa, he needs to prove he has got funds. Only problem his, the remaining of his money is in MY bank account here in Canada, and I will be provins until he gets to work as I am employed. Is that gonna be an issue?

He can include a letter of support from you stating that you will financially support him and a copy of your bank statement.

Awesome. When you say bank statements do you mean I can just show my bank balance or literally my bank history for the past few months? Thanks for being so helpful!

Did the CBSA officer not inform your partner that his stay was being limited when he entered?

As said above, just apply online to extend his visitor status. He should state in the app that he is requesting the extension because he is submitting a sponsorship app and include the PR fee receipt as proof.
