Hi !
Quick question :
My partner is British, and we have been together for 4 years now.
He moved to Montreal on a work visa (youth work experience) and he can legally work/live here for two years.
Can we start the process of him becoming a permanent resident on the one year mark of him moving here ? ( since a common-law partner becomes one by living with his/her partner for 12 months ).

Or do we have to wait for the visa to be up ?

Thanks in advance !

Apply after 1 year.bbMake sure to get all the proof possible that you are living together. Lease, bills with same address, etc.

You can start as soon as you've lived together for a year. Make sure you diligently collect evidence and documents like lease agreements, bills and mail addressed to the same address, etc. Some people seem to have had problems with having insufficient evidence of cohabitation, and you don't want that to become an issue.
