Hi everyone... I am very very happy to get admission in Victoria , British Columbia for my Masters in English Literature program. My university classes start in September. I have always always wanted to visit and live in Canada. I think its a beautiful country. And I am extremely delighted!!!!!! Yeayyy :) I have been there once, to toronto and windsor, when I was young. Went there to see the Niagara Falls with my parents. Was living at that time in Chicago, USA. I am currently living in USA and have a few questions regarding my immigration to Canada. Ok so I would start with my questions. Please anybody who has the information, kindly help me.

1) How long would it take for me to get my student visa? I want to get it as soon as possible

2) I am coming to Canada with my husband. Should my husband get a spouse visa at the same time that I get a student visa? Or should he get it later?

3) After I get my visa, how soon can I come to Canada? I want to land there right now !!!! :D

4) After I start my education, how soon will I get off-campus work permit?

5) After I graduate, I would get a work permit as far as I know. For what period of time will that work permit be valid?

6) My husband has done his masters in Computer Science here from USA. He wants to work in Canada. In which city or province is he most likely to find a job? Where should he search for jobs?

I would be grateful to anyone who can reply to my queries.

Thank you so much ;D

Re: Coming to Victoria , British Columbia as a atudent. Need Help with a few things!

Post your questions to the International Students section of this forum:

http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/international-students-b2.0/

To help you with a few questions;

- You will qualify for an off campus work permit once you have completed six months of full time studies in Canada.
- Processing times can be found on the CIC web site: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/temp.asp
- How long a work permit you get will depend on the length of your program. Read through the posts in the International Students section of this forum.

Note that you won't be "landing" or "immigrating" to Canada as a student. Only those who have been approved as permanent residents land and immigrate. You will simply be coming to Canada temporarily on a student visa.

@scylla

Thank you so much for your reply. I went through the International Students forum and it is a lot of help :) Will be going through the entire forum in the next few days. Thanks

And by landing I meant my plane landing in Canada. So technically it means I would be landing in Canada too right? Its an expression. "landing in a country" meaning entering a country. And by immigrating i meant " coming into a new country, changing residence, etc". That's what I would be doing :D

Check out Victoria Immigration and Refugee center in Victoria (its on Bay street and Governemnt) http://www.vircs.bc.ca/

Its run with government and sponsor funds so a lot of services are free. I used to teach computer classes there in my free time to help out.

Now my wife (who landed in Vancouver 22 March and is living with me in Victoria) is taking english lessions there.

PM me for more details about this and anything Victoria BC related.

Cheers,
