i am a Nigerian legally resident here in Spain(not permanent ). but have a Canadian girlfriend, who is willing to assist me in coming over,n and she does not really know much about how it would be easy for me to come over to Canada, she has already visited me here in Spain and spent over a month.please anyone with the best idea on how to go about this, because would not want to be refused a Canadian visa,i have a Spanish resident visa on my passport and with stamps of over 15countries i have visited both within and out side Europe.

Okay, so I answered on another post which sounds quite different in detail than this one.

Exactly what status do you hold in Spain?

Is this a girlfriend or someone that you are marrying?

The details presented between the two posts are not really matching very well.

i hold a regular spainish resident, becos i came here on a resident visa 6yrs ago.the girl in question is my girlfriend and we are really going to get married for real and not some kind of game or stuff like that.but to get married here in spain takes a long process they ask you to bring all sorts of document frm ur home country. that why am asking is it possible for us to go to nigeria and get married they come over here to process it cos it takes a shorter time out here than processing it frm nigeria.

am making all this enquiry because she wants us to do the official marriage in canada, where all her families and friends could be in attendance, bcos she come frm a large family financially it will be too much on us to bring them down to nigeria for the marriage. so i dont knw if only just a registry marriage will do for now. then when i get to canada we plan on the church marriage.

From what you describe chances of a visitor visa for the purpose of marrying in Canada are pretty slim.

I would think anyone would question the duration of your relationship and the genuiness of it.

There is nothing to stop you from marrying outside Canada and if the marriage is one that is recognized from any country in Canada you can apply for permanent residence with your spouse as sponsor from a country where you have currently hold legal status for a minimum of 1 year.

There is no guarantee that you would be successful on your application, regardless of a marriage, but nothing stops you from applying if you want to do so.

so if i marry her nigeria and bring the marriage certificate to file it here in europe willit be recognised, becos marrying her here in spain will take us another six to eight months to get thru will de process before we even get a date for the marriage itself.its so confusing at this point.
