Coming to Canada before COPR is issued

Hey guys,

What are the potential implications of coming to Canada on eTA before getting the COPR?
Our situation is that the PA (inland) has already received the eCOPR but the dependent (outside of Canada) is still waiting for the COPR. It’s been several months already.
We tried calling IRCC but all they say is that this will cause complications in receiving the COPR. But if that means the dependent will have to declare their presence after arriving to Canada on a eTA and wait for a couple extra months then we’ll take it.

Exactly what will happen. You’ll need to inform IRCC that you are now in Canada and will likely delay landing as a PR for a few months. You must be close to getting COPR abroad so up to you to decide what is best for your family. Things like access to healthcare and the ability to work may also be a consideration for couples.

Just be patient and wait. If IRCC says it will complicate things, take their advice and wait
