Hi,

Is it correct that as I am from the UK I can visit Canada for 6 months as a tourist without a visa? is this guaranteed or will my time be decided by immigration when arrive? I will have a return ticket but as I am leaving my job, I will not be able to prove I have a job to return to would this be a probelm as I do have a home address to return too in the UK.

I do intend to return to the UK after this time and I have sufficient funds to support myself whislt there so I am just concerned about arriving and then being refused entry for the 6 months.

I am going to be staying with my Canadian boyfriend in Vancouver, would this cause a problem if I mentioned this to immigration or it best I just say I am staying with a friend.

Thanks,

No - the six months is not guaranteed. The decision is made by immigration when you arrive.

As long as you are really coming as just a visitor you should be fine. Make sure you have a return ticket, can show you have sufficient funds to cover the costs of your stay and bring some additional evidence that shows ties to the UK (e.g. property ownership, rental agreement).

So they could turn round and say I can only stay for a week? I am just very concerned as I am giving up my job to go there for 6 months so if I give up everything to only be told I can stay for a couple weeks it would be terrible, can I appeal there decision? I am not sure how I can prove my home address as I would be return to my parents house so I have not rental or ownership agreement?

Thank you for your help, should I meniton my boyfriend or not?

Yes - there's always a possibility that they might give you a stay of less than six months. Occasionally people are even refused entry (although this is extremely rare). No - you can't appeal the decision. Once you are in Canada, you can apply to extend your visit (again, no guarantee it will be approved).

You can't show your parents' home as ties (I was hoping you either owned your own home or had a place rented in your name).

Not sure what you should say at the border (hopefully others will comment).
