Hello guys,

I am a Canadian citizen as my son. But he was born outside of Canada. I applied for child tax benefit since arriving back, but I'm just not sure if he would receive these payments the month he was born or vice versa. And if yes, what is needed? I filed my 2012 income tax, do i need to file for any prior year in order to receive the full payments (since he was born)

Please inform me, I'd appreciate your feedback greatly. Thanks.

I believe that in order to be eligible for child tax benefit, you must be living in Canada with your child so I do not think you will get it retroactively since he was born if you have been outside Canada for the past 3 years.

Thank you for clarifying.
