Good day guys i would like to know if it is possible to come into Canada as a visitor and then find an employer who i can work with and possibly apply for time extension as my time as a visitor draws close to the end .

Visit visa holders are not allowed to work in Canada.

You can come as a visitor, find an employer willing to apply for LMO for you then apply for the work visa/permit outside Canada. You certainly would need to file for an extension of your visit (should you be allowed entry and given 6 months standard allowable visit), because it would take some time to look for an employer, employer advertising for the position, employer applying for LMO and you applying for the visa/permit.

A friend is planning to do that. She has a visitor visa but will expire this August. What is the time frame of doing this process of getting LMO, advertising, and getting WP? Reading some post I guess she must go out of the country in getting the work permit. What if she has no US Visa, which is the nearest border to go to, will she have to go back to her home country to get that?

Advertising/Recruitment Efforts of employer - 2 weeks
LMO application 2-8 weeks (sometimes more, the employer may need to justify why s/he is hiring a foreign worker if Canadian citizens/PRs can be trained to do the job)
Visa/WP application (see the website - 1-2 months depending on which consulate/visa office app is sent and the completeness of the package)

Exit to the border closest to the applicant, let US border officials know visitor applicant is picking up the WP, will be issued an administrative refusal if no US visa), show this to the canadian border official and obtain work permit

Yes you may be fortunate to get an interview and perhaps a contract during your visit. However because processing takes time I will encourage your to go back to your country and apply for the work permit there once you have received your LMO. This make the process less complex and you will have a peace of mind.
