Hi all,

Does anyone know whether you can combined NOCs (e.g., one is university research and teaching assistant; another is health policy researcher) to fulfill the MINIMUM REQUIREMENT of one-year continuous full-time equivalent work experience in Federal Skilled worker program?

I know that you cannot do it for Federal Skilled Worker Category 1 (the old stream [Eligible NOCs] that has been scrapped out). But how about the Ph.D. Stream?

Thanks!
Specialmary

If it not possible for the FSW 1, it will not be possible for the FSW3, because it follows the same rules.

I see. I have asked three immigration lawyers and they all said I can add up the different NOCs to make up the one-year continuous work experience requirement... I just am not sure...

Hi Specialmary,

The following link is regarding the Ph.D/AEO category which is still open for PR applicants:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who-instructions.asp

Since CIC has put a temporary pause on the FSW and IIP category, you will not be able to apply until it is opened again in Jan 2013.

Earlier, the requirement was to have "One continuous (and full time) year experience in one of the the MI NOCs" AND one could have additional points by adding up the experience gained in Skill category of A, B and O.

That's incorrect. The FSW 2 (AEO, now FSW-1) and FSW3(PHD,now FSW-2) Classes are not affected by the immigration pause.

Hi TyrusX,

How am I INCORRECT?

In my response I have clearly mentioned that Ph.D and AEO categories are still open.

Just for clarification sake : The CIC website does not equate "AEO as FSW 1" and "Ph.D as FSW2"; therefore, any reference to FSW1 and FSW2 would confuse the current applicants......just leave it simple and refer as Ph.D and AEO categories.

As I understood from Specialmary's query, the poster wanted to know:

1) If "combined NOCs would fulfill the requirement for a FSW application" and the answer to that is - NO, as there is a temporary pause on FSW applications.

2) If s/he can apply under the Ph.D stream? The answer to that is -Yes.

Hope it is clear now.

Sorry, I skimmed your message and didn't see that part. But I'm not sure she will qualify with barely a year of work experience in different NOCs. I invited her to post on the Phd Thread, where other PhD applicants can give their opinion. The PHD Stream is more difficult, as one has to fulfill all the requirement of the FSW class plus others specific for it.
