I applied for study visa with my old passport but I renewed my passport and sent the new passport for stamping. Although i had requested to update my passport information through webform, they stamped my new passport with visa valid until the expiry date of old passport. Now my college deferred my course for September 2023 and my visa will expire on January 11, 2024. Can i get entry in Canada for my study in september ? I have heard I need to have minimum six months left on my visa to be granted study permit. I am in tense situation. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

You needed to send in your new LOA to have hopefully jchanged the dates of your study permit. Landing in Canada with 4 months left on your study permit should be fine but I would bring proof that you have already applied for a study permit extension. I would personally suggest that your apply for an extension asap, even if you are out of Canada, because processing times can be up to around 6 months so it would be great to have your new permit before arriving in Canada or in September/October.

You can enter Canada as long as your visa is valid. When you enter Canada, show the CBSA officer your updated LOA. You will need to apply for new TRV if you wish to travel outside Canada during the validity of your SP. I haven't heard of minimum six months on visa validity for granting SP (I could be wrong). A friend and his partner recently landed last January with visa validity as per old LOA, but they got SP/SOWP validity based on new LOA. Don't know if there is a new rule now.

So I can apply for study permit extension without ever getting one? I only have student visa stamped on my passport. Won’t they grant me the study permit valid until my study ends after I land in the airport?
