Hey guys,

Hoping this a simple one for you all, though proving impossible to find any info about on the website (or perhaps I’m just being thick!). I’ll try to make this quick:

- 29 years old, born and grew up in Canada (Canadian citizen). Have been married to a British citizen for 3 years now (no children), have been living in Edinburgh, UK for the past 5 years now. She has obviously met my family plenty of times (we had a wedding here in Edinburgh and also one in Calgary for my family). We’ve been together for 6 years, have photos, leters, flights, etc. We want to move to Calgary to be with my family and for a fantastic work opportunity for myself. I’m in the midst of filling out all of the application forms right now and I’m confused as to the “co-signer part”. I assumed that as I am a Canadian citizen and have filled out the sponsor section, that I could simply skip the co-signer part, but the form will not allow me to “Validate” it without filling this in. Do I need a co-signer for this? How should I fill this part in?

Thanks so much for your help – really appreciate you taking the time out to give me a hand!

Best,
Shaun

You cannot have a co-signer to sponsor your spouse, because then your spouse would be co-signing to sponsor themselves.

Alright great, so I just leave that part blank? And ignore the fact that it won't let me "Validate" the form? I just assumed that if this was not a necessity, that it would allow me to validate it without having anything filled in.

How the form is laid out is:

1. Sponsor details
2. Detials of Spouse (who I will be sponsoring)
3. Co-signer details

When I try to complete (validate) the form, all of the cosigner area highlights in red and says it must be filled in. It seems redundant to put my info in again for this part, so leaving it blank seems like the obvious choice

Which form are you talking about? I never had any problems validating my forms without the co-signer information.

Hey Miles,

Thanks for your responses. It's called "Application to Sponsor, Sponsorship Agreement and Undertaking". cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM1344E.pdf

Thanks again -- totally lost at what to do there

Did you tick the box "No" at the top, where it asks if there is a co-signer?
