I just want to share my recent experience applying for a Co-op Work Permit this September 2020. It may be useful information for International students applying for Co-op Work Permit during these stressful times.

Take this with a grain of salt, processing times may still defer for everyone.

Basically, I applied for a Co-op Work Permit with my Study Permit Extension on September 22, 2020, and I got approved on September 25, 2020, for both my initially Co-op Work Permit and Study Permit extension.

It surprisingly took only 3 days for my application to be processed, compared to the 59 days estimate for a Study Permit Extension (with Co-op Permit option) and the 197 days for Work permit application processing times (applied inside Canada) as of September 27, 2020.

I am not saying that it's guaranteed for all applications to be processed in just 3 days, but just saying you may also get lucky as well.

What did I do?
  • Complete all the documents required including the optional document that's stated in the application.
    • I gave a clearly outlined proof of means of income, I included:
      • signed letters from my sponsors explaining their support for my finances
      • certificate of employment from sponsors
      • pays stubs of 3 months from my sponsors
      • 4 months of my bank statements with highlighted proof of receiving money
    • I gave a clear explanation on the first page of the PDF explaining my proof of means documents.
      • e.g. "Money wire transfers on my bank statements on these days June X, July X, August X."
    • Officially stamped bank statements!
    • Official Co-op Program from your University. (For people applying for Coop Work Permit as well).
    • Photo, Passport pages, Letter of Acceptance/Enrolment Letter (latest ones).
Feel free to share if you got a similar experience, or if you applied just for a Co-op Work Permit alone and got it quickly.

Good luck to anyone applying!

I've applied for extending my student visa plus my partner open work permit in May and still haven't heard back from them.
