Hi Rohito,

You have asked how to get your Co-op experience considered for the CEC application. I am not sure if i know the answer to that question.

As far as i know the CEC will only consider the experience gained after you have graduated from your studies. Any internship or co-op is done on Co-op work permits, right? The CEC operational bulletin states:

Any period of employment during which the applicant
was engaged in full-time study will not be included in calculating the period of qualifying work experience (e.g. work experience gained through co-op work permits, off-campus work permits
while a full-time student and on-campus work permits). [R87.1(3)(a)].

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/op/op25a-eng.pdf [page10 - under section 9.11]

Your best option is to first finish your studies, work for 12 months on the PGWP and then apply for CEC.

All the best.

My bad, i got your question wrong.

CIC will consider your 12 months of experience gained after graduation - as your work experience. So it will not be helpful to include the experience gained while on internship.

Since you have already got the 12 months experience after graduation - go ahead and apply.

All the best.

I believe the question was not that...

She is talking about the requirement of listing all of your workplaces during the last 3 years and she is wondering if she is supposed to include her co-op experience in those 3 years of background info required...

Hi
I graduated in April 2012 and as soon as I graduated I was offered a job but I had only Co op work permit at that time and I called CIC and they told me that if my serial number on co op wp starts with "U" then I am good to go and can start working for being paid.
my actual wp started in june 2012.
Now for applying under cic i need a reference letter from the company and on which they will write that I started my job in April which technically i could not under co op wp. ( I came to know about this later)
and i have no record of the call i made to CIC before accepting the job

If some one has any idea if I am right or wrong for applying?
Please reply

Once you are graduate from a univ/college and have a valid off campus work permit at time of graduation ...

Then you can still work full time on the same off campus work permit , until you receive the post graduate work permit.

I did a 8 month coop and then returned to school to wrap up my degree. As you might already know that they don't consider this experience towards the Canadian experience class. I did not include this in the schedule 8 form (Canadian experience class form). However, I mentioned about my coop in the background declaration form where you have to list out all your activities without any gaps. I also attached a cover letter to explain all these activities in detail especially the coop part of it so it doesn't create any confusion. It's kind of a gray area and I had the same confusion as you and ended up not mentioning that in the schedule 8 because its irrelevant . You may think that it's not a bad idea to list it out here but WHY? We already know its not eligible for consideration under CEC and most of all if you did list it out then you HAVE to provide the reference letter. Save the head ache by not mentioning it there. If you don't declare it there it just means you don't want that experience to be taken under consideration but again this applies only for COOP which is a unique situation.

You are right about the fact that the work you did with coop work permit will not be taken under consideration. I am a little confused about your situation here. Are you falling short of your 1 year experience due to this or what? or your just wondering about the start day in the reference letter will be the time you worked with coop work permit there? If that was the case , I wouldn't worry about it. You can always attach a covering letter explaining that you used your coop work permit to work for the first few months and you received your post grad work permit only after you started working there. It was a genuine mistake!! It will not make you inadmissible to apply for immigration as long as you dont lie about it. Just dont say you made a mistake and got wrong information from the call centre and all that stuff. As I said just mention it. You don't have to give the details but mention it in a covering letter that you used coop work permit to work from xx to xx and then continued working at the same place using the actual work permit. The officer should ignore the coop part and start counting your experience from the date you received the actual work permit. This will end well given the fact that your not falling short of your 1 year experience.
