hello there;
I have applied to several colleges for computer science technology and networking with CO-OP. fortunately, I received the offer letter from the centennial college but there is nothing about co-op is mentioned I can say offer letter is just for regular courses. I asked my consultant they said you have to appear for some CO-OP related test and if you perform well you will receive co-op permission. Is it a true story?

1. Your agent is wrong. No test is required for any Co-op program. Some school might ask for better grades, if any.

Hello Vikas,

I graduated from Computer Systems Tech Networking 3435 Co-op from Centennial College. During first week of classes, every international student has to give an English test and you need to attain certain level for the Co-op program. That time I got the offer letter for non Co-op program and then transferred to co-op program during the first semester. I would advice to get the offer letter for co-op program as either way you have to give that English test.

What are they saying, which test you have to give for the co-op program and where? In centennial during first few weeks? You can send me pm anytime, or we can share info here so that we can help other students too.

You can always change to co-op program during your first semester, so you don't worry about getting the co-op offer letter. I changed to co-op program in the first semester.

Yes, I did appeared for an English test in which I scored 94/100. It was only reading and writing, no listening and speaking. So I got enrolled on COMM 171 English course (Which is the highest you can attain) in 1st semester, got B+ in it (Keep in mind you need to get at least C+ to be eligible for co-op). In the first English test few of my friends scored 80% and 70%. The one who scored 80% got enrolled on COMM 161 and one who got 70% got enrolled in COMM 151. So they had COMM 161 (or 151) in first semester and COMM 171 in second or third semester, by the time it was too late for them to enroll into the Co-op program. I didn't had to complete Mathematics as I already had Bachelors.

My experience with Co-op 3435 was very positive. The co-op department posted many jobs on their portal, I applied to them and after many interviews I got hired by Canada's top companies (IBM and Bell). You have to work hard for yourself, they won't do anything other than correcting your resume. You have to apply for as many jobs as possible, make a good impression on the employer, and the most important thing that will land you the job is your communication skills. I am starting a contract with one of the companies I worked with during co-op after graduating. So, yes the co-op program definitely paid off, otherwise I would have been graduating without any experience and no company would like to hire me. Keep in mind, only around 60% of the students in the co-op program were able to find a job, if you fail to, you are withdrawn from the co-op to non co-op program.

Yes, I am still in Toronto. As this is a fast track program, you will be placed in 3rd semester of the actual program. We all missed the basics of networking because we didn't attended the first two semesters. In our first semester (3rd actual semester), we had difficulty following two courses because we were not familiar with subnetting. I would advice you to learn the basics of computer networks, subnetting. There are many good ebooks that you can download. "Networking All-in-One For Dummies", "CCNA Certification All-In-One For Dummies" are good for basics, don't go too deep as you will learn slowly during the program. During the program books by Todd Lammle were very helpful too.
