Hello,
Would anyone know the closes hotel (preferably cheap) to accra, ghana CIC office. Phone number and address would be great.

Thank you

Frankie's Hotel is fairly cheap, and just a short cab ride away from CHC Accra. Canadianwoman and her husband stayed there.

We haven't decided where my husband will stay, but we put 42 Independence Avenue, Accra on google map and then clicked Hotels. We are leaning towards Central Hotel which is $120US per night. http://www.centralhotels.com.gh/

Hope this helps a bit!

$120us :o :o :o :o :o a night? wow thats how much i pay in RENT A MONTH!

West Africa is not exactly cheap! For my wedding we stayed at a pretty run down hotel. A/C worked intermittently, there were some bugs and we had a rat in our room. No internet in the rooms either. Cost us $100 US per night, only because my husband's best friend works for the hotel and got us a 40% discount!!

RN - there are several hotels outside of the downtown area with rates around $60-80 per night. It's hard because, as you know, not every hotel and business is online. Many websites are down or out of date as well.

Yeah, West Africa is not the cheap destination you might think it would be, given the income levels there. I think it is because the average person is too poor to travel, so if they do, they stay with family and friends, thus leaving the hotels to the businessmen.
It's very easy to get a taxi in Accra, so you don't have to stay really close to the embassy, which is in a more expensive area.

RN..... I dont have an answer to your question but I noticed in your timeline that your husband didnt have an interview??? Is he from ghana? wow thats amazing!

LOL - My husband has vetoed my idea of staying in a nice hotel. He said his brother has stayed at the Francophil hotel and said it's basic, but clean and comfortable. It has wi/fi in the rooms which is a MUST for my husband. Price is $35 per night with breakfast included. It's not super close to CHC, but only a $5 cab ride.

Thanks everyone, We ended up staying at SNIIT guest house. Its a nice guest house. Clean with friendly staff. Breakfast for one included, internet included. Price, 80 to 100 dollars. Its supper close to the Canadian embassy. Around 5 minutes walk (or less).

Yeah, taxi is really cheap in accra.

Bobshynoswife..little off-topic, but have you had a chance to stay in any hotels in Lagos or Lagos Island at all? I am trying to plan a trip for my husband and I and am a little concerned with the range of hotel information available online, and I don't want to ask him, as I am planning it as a surprise.

This is a tough one! Most hotels that are online are very expensive, the ones that are on the Island are insane...around $400-600 US per night! You really need to talk to a local to find out some alright hotels that aren't too expensive.

We stayed at the Pink Ribbon hotel, which is on Allen Avenue in Ikeja...only 5 minutes from the airport. It's about an hour drive to the island, depending on the time of day you go, of course. A car hire will cost about 4,500 naira to get you to the island. What we did instead was hire a driver for the whole day. He charged 15,000 naira ($100US) but took us everywhere we needed to go and was waiting for us outside as soon as we were done. Let me know if you want his name and number. (he only speaks Yoruba though and a bit of pidgin English)

If the Pink Ribbon doesn't work for you, I could ask my husband what he recommends. Let me know what your price range is and what area you want to be in. His friend works for Hotel Support, a company that, well, supports hotels. LOL. So he has some contacts. That's how we got into the Pink Ribbon.

So he got his visa? Everything went alright? I'm so very pleased for you both!

Thanks bobs, he got it but it was the longest day ever. We waited at the embassy from 8am to around noon. Then we were told to come back at 3 . It was finally granted to everyone at 4:00pm.

I made a mistake. It is supposed to be SSNIT guest house. + 233 21 226228

Ssnit Guest House, Accra, Tel:+233-21-226228/225366

If you look at the map of accra and locate the embassy on the map, you will see the location of the guest house written on the map. Its around Independence Avenue and Ring Road.

If you call them, they will pick you up at the airport and drop you off. The price is between 80-100 dollars depending on the room you want. Its less than 5 minutes walk to the embassy
