Hi,

I am on closed work permit for a specific employer and have been working for them within Canada for the past 6 months (was working for them from India for past 2.5 years). I would like to apply for PR but am not sure if I am eligible for PR at this stage. Are there any conditions for applying for PR when one is on closed WP? Please suggest. Also, my visa stamping on the passport has expired, how can I extend the visa so I can travel outside Canada and return back?

thanks in advance.
-Satish.

There is no specific PR process for closed work permits. You need to apply for PR through Express Entry or PNP like any other candidate. Have you researched this yet? Do you know how many points you have under EE? Are you on an ICT?

You need a valid TRV to be able to return to Canada if you leave.

Thank you. I am not on ICT.
I will checkout the points in the EE system but was wondering if I will get enough points for 6 months experience in Canada. Also, is there any link between the PR application and the TRV? For instance, if I have applied for PR, do I still have to apply separately for TRV to go outside Canada and return?

thanks.

You need a year of work experience in Canada to get extra points for Canadian work experience under EE. Six months of work experience won't get you extra points.

Yes, you need to separately apply for a TRV to go outside of Canada and then return.
