Dear All,

I am in Canada on a Closed work permit with LMIA. My employer applied for a new LMIA and after a positive LMIA applied for a closed work permit inside Canada.

My application has not progressed in more than six months, and the normal processing time on the IRCC website is 145 days.

What can I do in such a case? I contacted IRCC customer care and they asked me to wait, with no additional document request. I am now on an implied status and can not leave Canada.

Looking for support or suggestions.

There's really nothing you can do but wait. The processing times are just estimates and we are seeing a lot of people wait 8+ months these days.

Thank you for your response.

I am currently dealing with a family emergency and need to travel to my home country. Unfortunately, I am now stuck due to a delay in work permit application processing. I submitted a request through the IRCC webform, including documents supporting the emergency, but I have not received a response yet.

Do you know the maximum time it might take to process my application? How much maximum time could take?

There's no maximum.

Unfortunately there's also no expedited processing for work permits. If you have an emergency then you always have the option to leave Canada and deal with the work permit from outside of Canada.

I read it online that contacting the local MP could help. Does it help? I have all the documents to prove the family emergency.

Yes, that's the last option I have. I already discussed this situation with HR and she told me I have to take unpaid leave because if I leave Canada I will lose the implied status and they can not legally pay me and I don't know how long will it take

MPs cannot influence application processing. You can certainly reach out to the MP in your area however I wouldn't count on this making any difference.
