Clarifications regarding PGWP.

Hello. So my diploma is of 2 academic years ( 16 months ) I've some doubts:
1- I was just wondering if I'll be getting a 16 month PGWP or 3 years....

2- Is it easy to get PGWP? Do they need any funds etc to be shown?

3- Can I work in any job regardless of my studies and can apply for PNP / CEC with that job?

if the diff. between start date and end date = 730 days, then u will get a 3 yrs PGWP
if not then =to the length of ur study

hmm the diploma sums up to 605 days. Almost 20 months. So I'll be getting PGWP for 20 months I guess if they include holidays (summer /winter break etc)

NOC 1311 – Accounting technicians and bookkeepers
NOC 6211 – Retail sales supervisors
NOC 6311 – Food service supervisors
NOC 6322 – Cooks

Above is a list of ineligible occupations for CEC. I recall you are going into BA and studying accounting. You will likely fall under 1221, 1241, or 1311, which will cause you issues with CEC later. For 1111 accountants, you need a bachelor's degree and an accounting designation.

CEC is one of the only "pass based" immigration program, where most cases PR will be issued if requirements have been met. Although there are other immigration categories, they are far from certain and processing times can exceed many years. Just my 2 cents.

It won't take "many years" if listed occupation apply under any one of PNP. At the most 5-12 months.

PNP programs have been becoming more restricted in the recent years. You need a skilled position and a written job offer for Ontario and there is a quota of 2,500. Also, the fee to apply is really high too. Similarly, although Alberta has a higher quota at 5,500, the processing time has increased to 12 months just for the provincial portion of the application. Generally, it'd take at least 2 years for PNP PR.

The OP specifically asked of the CEC program.

agreed ....with quota and restrictions it becomes more difficult and on top of that PNP change. being said that some PNP could be the only option for people doing 1 year degree. so it is better to prepare for CEC and then if u get a chance in a PNP well and good.

What I heard from others was that meeting the "permanent full time" requirement under most PNP programs is most difficult. Jobs offered to international students with limited life work permit are often 1-2 year contract based.

If immigration is the OP's eventual goal/plan, I personally think a 2 year diploma in accounting is a bad idea as he's counting on PNP without CEC being a possible alternative. I know that many consultants started advising against accounting diplomas for eventual PR purposes in my country too.

with new changes coming in jan 2015 I am sure PNP's will change too. dont know how everything is gonna effect college students.
