civil wedding now & ceremony later=problem?

If we have a civil ceremony in mexico with only 2-4 witnesses and no other guests would it be a problem for the application? the thing is we don't have much money and want to have a nice ceremony once we are both in Canada together so it could be over a year later...... is that strange? will it be a problem? we would be dating for 10 months before the wedding.

I just had my city hall wedding last weekend! I've read about many people here who have had small weddings and it doesn't seem to be a problem. I did splurge on a photographer, so just make sure there are pictures, even if it is a small wedding, and plenty of other evidence of your relationship, of course! You may want to include in the explaination of your relationship that you plan on having a larger ceremony later. I am having a reception for the rest of my family this summer and was sure to include that information.
