Civil Marriage Statement sent to CIC (didn't send marriage certificate) HELP!

Hey everyone,

So I made a mistake when sending our inland application in Jan 2017, I only sent our Civil Marriage Statement instead of the marriage certificate. I thought it was the same thing because it had a certificate number. We just ordered one today, will the CIC just request this from us? It takes about a month to come in here in Alberta. I'm just hoping the application doesn't get rejected right away without them asking for this document. My wife is still on her visitor visa thats expiring in mid April. We are still also waiting for the acknowledgement receipt so we can't renew her visa until we get a application number. Any advise??

They will probably return, not refuse the application, which will cost you ~ 2 to three months, but no money or procedural consequences. That will be unfortunate that your spouse will come out of status and will have to travel out of Canada or get an extension.

You may be lucky and they request the right document but I highly doubt that as they stated A CLEAR WARNING against what you did in the checklist.
 
I've read from someone else on this forum that the application didn't get rejected but instead they just requested the marriage certificate. I'm emailing the CIC right now to ask where we can send the marriage certificate and to let them know we made that mistake. Hopefully it'll help!
 
Did you ever get any answers or response to this? We are in the process of getting all our documents together.. I thought it was enough too. Our marriage certificate has not come yet because there was a spelling mistake and it needs to be fixed first which is taking long time. I am thinking of just writing a letter, sending the civil marriage statement and receipts in

I did that twice! Luckily they were fast and got back to me both times and we ordered our marriage certificate, took like 1.5 months
 
We waited until we got the marriage certificate from Service Ontario before we submitted our application. You do not want to waste time getting the application package returned. If the TRV is about to expire submitted a renewal just in case. That way you remain in status in the event that you do not get the marriage certificate in time to submit the sponsorship and OWP application.

We might not get our certificate until after my work permit expires and then I'll be on implied status waiting for my visitor visa... so Im confused as to how to complete the status section including dates my status expires since I wont know how long they give me until they send it to me :/
